About Me

All About Me

Rachel Lori

Background

  1. I was born on May 10th, 1988 in a Philadelphia hospital.
  2. I grew up in New Jersey with my parents and five siblings.
  3. In the middle of my junior year in high school, my family relocated to Allentown, PA.
  4. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease after my senior year of high school.
  5. I moved to Texas in 2008 where I still reside today.

My Likes:{In no particular order}
    1. The New York Giants: Everyone in my family loves them.  I wasn't always a football fan and found it to be quite boring when I was a kid.  As I grew older and became more sick, football began as a fun distraction that developed into a great passion.  Even though loving the Giants in Texas is frowned upon, I enjoy flaunting my team as much as possible, because lets face it, the Cowboy suck. ;)
    2. The beach: Nothing is more serene than aqua blue seas that sparkle. I might not get the chance to encounter that type of beach as much, but any beach does the trick.  There is something so soothing in the sound of the waves crashing, and the sand freely seeping between your toes. I hope to live on the beach someday.

    3. Swimming:  I started swimming at the age of three when my mom got my siblings and I private lessons. I accelerated in my lessons and won several swimming competitions. Although I am not an avid swimmer anymore, it is a nice way to relax and work out my sore bones and muscles.

    4. Food:  Italian is my favorite kind. Nothing beats East Coast food that masters in delicious deli, pizza, and subs that are out of this world.  After not being able to eat much for three  consecutive years, surgery gave me the ability to enjoy all my favorite foods again, even ones I wasn't able to eat in over a decade (like pizza, mac and cheese, and ice cream).

    5. Quotes: I am obsessed with finding quotes that identify with every emotion.  I find them to be an easy outlet in expressing your personality and views.  There are an endless array of quotes from the inspiring to the funny. I 'm always on the hunt to find the perfect one for my mood.

    6. Emeralds: They are my birthstone and favorite color.

    7. Writing: Obviously I love to write.  When I was seven, I wrote a collection of short stories that I still have today.  I am not very good at articulating my emotions to other people.  I get tongue tied as my mind scrambles the thoughts I am trying to convey. I found through writing, my emotions spilled out smoothly and organized.  I have a special passion for writing poems because I find them to be a unique way to express yourself.

    8. Reading: I find you learn how to become a good writer by being an avid reader. You develop a pool of wealth from reading many books, and it is enjoyable in the process.

    9. Movies: Who doesn't love movies? They are a great distraction that opens your mind to an endless world of possibilities.

    10. Music: Is a powerful tool that enhances any mood you are experiencing.

My Dislikes:

    1. Crohn's Disease: For the many obvious reasons.
    2. Texas weather: Its certified bipolar-TRUTH.

    3. Texas in the summer: Welcome to H E L L on earth.  This is a separate entity because it can be triple digit heat without any relief for the entire summer.  Sometimes you might just get a cold front... 98 degrees, what a relief!

    4. Cocky people: There is a fine line between confidence and cockiness.  To me being confident displays you are satisfied with yourself and proud of the person you've become, being cocky portrays you have inner insecurities that you are trying to compensate for.

    5. The snow: I hate anything that has to do with being freezing.  While the sight of snow is quite beautiful, cleaning up the mess it leaves behind is not.

    6. Sun damage: I am a recovered tan-a-holic.  I am guilty of going to the tanning salon too much and I suffered the consequences.  I got quite the scare when several moles appeared on my stomach and other parts of my body.  I got them checked out, and for now I am fine, but it is something I will have to keep an eye on for the rest of my life.

    7. Dating: It is tedious and awkward. The one that's cares less holds all of the cards. It surprises me how much the art of dating has evolved over the past several years; chivalrous men seem to be a dying breed. I think the best relationships come from being friends first.

    8. Mamas Boys: Having a close relationship with your mom and being a mamas boy are two separate things.  Some mothers can't accept their little boys are grown men and enable them to act like children. It is a man's responsibility to cut the umbilical cord.  I once went out with a guy who was so wrapped up in his mommy's world, she would call him constantly during our dates, and he would actually answer...every time! YUCK!

    9. No motivation:  It seems our generation today is much less motivated to be independent.  I understand how difficult it is to be financially independent these days, but that doesn't excuse not trying.  I know too many people who have failed school (some on their parent's money) and work dead end jobs.  They are too content with using their parents because they are too lazy to better their lives.
    10. Cigarettes:  They smell bad, are bad for you, and lead to bad consequences.  So many people have to live with illnesses they never had any choice in getting.  By smoking you are making the choice to destroy your body.  You might think the bad things will never happen to you, but by putting that cigarette in your mouth, bad things are already happening.
